Original Version Of Martin Luther King's "Letter From Birmingham City Jail" - In Public Domain, Now Available To Download And Use
This is an exact scanned copy of the Public Domain brochure published without copyright notice in 1963, when the copyright law required a copyright notice to be placed on any publication in order to obtain copyright protection under the law. When Dr. King released this letter to the public, he was in jail seeking publicity for his civil rights work, not yet concerned with copyrights and royalties. Only later did he decide to revise the letter slightly and republish it with a copyright notice, But all of the main ideas are stated clearly in both versions.
However, the original version - - - and all of its content - - - had already entered the Public Domain, where it now remains, available for all people to use without restriction.
